$25 million gift raises the UO’s global profile

Dear University of Oregon community,

I am thrilled to announce Portland real estate developer, philanthropist, and UO alumnus Jordan Schnitzer and the Harold & Arlene Schnitzer CARE Foundation have made a transformative $25 million commitment to the College of Arts Sciences to position our university at the forefront of global education and research. In recognition of this investment, the School of Global Studies and Languages will be renamed the Schnitzer School of Global Studies and Languages.

This gift will accelerate the UO’s impact on the world while centering student success and a flourishing community.

The Schnitzer School will be home to the Center for Global Futures, bringing together interdisciplinary scholars and practitioners to address the complex global challenges of today and tomorrow. As we seek to establish a new major in international relations, as well as new faculty positions, graduate student support, and need-based scholarships, this gift ensures that the UO will continue to attract and nurture the world’s future leaders.

This investment continues the Schnitzer family’s legacy of generosity, including contributions to the UO like Jordan Schnitzer’s lead gift during the renovation and expansion of the art museum. Their commitment to higher education and global engagement will leave a lasting impact, empowering our students and faculty to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

I invite you all to celebrate this landmark gift with me.

Sincerely,

Karl Scholz
President
