I have also been extraordinarily impressed by the desire among virtually everyone I have met for quick and decisive actions to propel our university forward. I believe the time is right to do this.

Sexual Assault Advisory Council

09/18/2015 • Sexual harassment and violence are serious problems that the University of Oregon, as well as all universities in our nation, confronts. An important part of our effort to address sexual harassment and violence on campus is the new Sexual Assault Advisory Council, which convened for the first time on September 1.

Message regarding "Jane Doe" settlement

08/04/2015 • For more than 11 months, our university has been involved in litigation that has fueled mistrust and divided our community.  Today I would like to share with you that the University of Oregon has entered into a settlement agreement with the plaintiff in the “Jane Doe” matter. In approving this settlement, it is my hope that we focus our attention and considerable expertise on making our campus one on which all students will feel secure in the knowledge that they will be free from sexual violence.

Relaunch of search for Associate Vice President and Title IX Coordinator

07/22/2015 • The university remains focused on the safety of our students and is committed to ending sexual violence on campus. The search for an individual to lead the university’s efforts in this critical area has been an important topic on campus for some time and we have benefited both from the suggestions and robust discussion that ensued.
