Interim President Jamie Moffitt’s remarks to University Senate on March 15, 2023:
Good afternoon. Thank you for taking this time for me to address the Senate. I am very excited to welcome Incoming President Karl Scholz to the University of Oregon. I hope that you all, if you didn't get a chance to hear from him, you'll get a chance in the future, because I think he's going to be amazing. I am very, very excited.
I was asked to step into this interim role until he gets here in July. And my main goal, working in very close partnership with Provost Janet Woodruff-Borden, is going to be to try to keep all of the positive momentum that we have going right now, moving forward, and to support faculty, staff, and students as best we can during this transition time period. As provost, Janet is going to be taking the lead on all academic matters as appropriate. Basically, (the Senate) is going to be seeing a lot more of her given the nature of the work that the Senate does than you're going to see of me, as interim president.
I did want to let you know that I'm just extremely appreciative of everything that everyone's doing. (Senate President and professor) Dan (Tichenor) and (Senate Vice President and professor) Gerard (Sandoval) gave a presentation to the Board of Trustees on Tuesday, did a terrific job of describing all of the different initiatives and actions that are going on. And I just wanted to let folks know that I really appreciate and know that this work often can be very challenging and appreciate that you're stepping up to do it. I really look forward to working with everybody going forward and thank you for letting me take a couple minutes of your meeting.
