• It was one year ago, almost to the day, that this board entrusted me with the responsibility of leading this incredible university. With more than eight months as president of the University of Oregon now under me, I would like to take this opportunity to share some of what I’ve learned.

• It’s been eight years since our two schools (UO and UW-Madison) last met on the field at the 2012 Rose Bowl and we’ve both been eagerly anticipating the rematch. While most people will see University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Oregon as fierce gridiron competitors, off the field our faculty collaborate on work with global implications.

• It is a privilege to have the opportunity to name a building on the University of Oregon campus. The honor of naming the UO’s new Black Cultural Center (BCC) becomes even more significant knowing that it will be a place dedicated to student success and transformation, cultural understanding and historical education, and a source of inspiration for many generations to come.
